The Lure of Lloyd's
15 March 2007 - Post Magazine, Career Paths
Samir Baha, broker in BMS Intermediaries' Specialty Risk team, was today featured as a case study in an article on the graduate intake into the Lloyd's market as Lloyd's seeks to "attract, retain and develop the best people throughout the franchise."
Samir joined BMS in 2004 on the graduate scheme, completing it in 2006 and going on to achieve ACII status.
Case Study: Samir Baha, BMS
How did you find your first job in the Lloyd's market?
I got to know about Lloyd's and the London market through a family friend who highly recommended the insurance industry to me. After some research and advice I decided to apply for a few graduate schemes, one of which was at BMS. I was very impressed with the people I met during my interviews, so it was an easy decision to make when they offered me a job.

Which areas of the business have you worked in, and what did you enjoy?
As part of our graduate scheme I was fortunate enough to work in many parts of the organisation, starting with claims and accounts before moving onto the broking side. I now work as a broker for the specialty risk team where we handle most classes of business.
I enjoy the fact that the job involves a diverse set of skills such as analytical, interpersonal and negotiating skills to name but a few. And the job is very sociable as you have to interact with both clients and underwriters. BMS strongly encourages and supports study towards the ACII and I have recently completed the Advanced Diploma in Insurance.
