Lloyd's Community Programme
The Lloyd's Community Programme (LCP) was first established in 1989 to promote community involvement, both within the Corporation of Lloyd's and across the companies that form the Lloyd's community.
LCP's mission is to help improve the opportunities and environment of the people of Tower Hamlets and neighbouring East London boroughs by mobilising the support and involvement of individuals and companies in the Lloyd's market.
BMS staff are active in a number of programmes and the LCP presents regularly to BMS about new initiatives.
The kind of support that can be provided ranges from helping children with reading or maths in local schools, through football and cricket coaching, to business mentoring for police officers, Headteachers and individuals running small businesses.
Here are just a few facts about Tower Hamlets:
-
63% of households have an annual income less than £10,000
-
67% of children qualify for free school meals compared with the national average of 18%
-
At least one in three households has no wage earner
-
64% of students have English as an additional language.
